Actor Drew Barrymore, 47, spoke frankly about his addiction to alcohol in the divorce of his ex-husband Will Coppelman, an art consultant.

Drew Barrymore revealed his “deathly difficult” divorce from Will Coppelman, his resulting alcoholism, and his ex-husband’s affection for his new wife.

Barrymore recently married Coppelman, now 44, from 2012 to 2016 on People magazine’s cover story, and recalled years after the split as ‘very difficult’. The two have two children, Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8.

Barrymore said of the alcoholism that followed the breakup, “I was just trying to paralyze the pain and make you feel better. To me, the drink went on and on. “I thought I couldn’t change and I felt defeated,” he confessed

Barrymore fought alcoholism as a teenager in the past and eventually overcame it, but her dependence on alcohol felt familiar to her.

He said, “The life I planned for my children didn’t work out. I thought it was harder than I had been when I was young,” he said, adding that the children changed themselves.

He added: “A lot of things, including children, eventually motivated me to change, sought treatment, and developed the talk show The Drew Barrymore Show.”

Coppelman married Vogue fashion editor Alexandra Michaeler, 35, in August 2021, and Drew Barrymore said of her ex-husband’s new spouse, “She’s my favorite. I love her. I like it when we’re all together,” he said with affection. As for a new type of mixed family, “We have a wonderful family dynamic that proves that life goes on. “It’s perfect,” he said, expressing satisfaction
